Thank You for Voting!

Thank you for turning out to vote in record breaking numbers and thank you for electing me the Democratic nominee for Windham 7 (West Brattleboro.) This was an incredible primary election season with new candidates elected for the majority of statewide posts and new folks on the ballot for our Windham County senate seat!

Thank you for turning out to vote in record breaking numbers and thank you for electing me the Democratic nominee for Windham 7 (West Brattleboro.) This was an incredible primary election season with new candidates elected for the majority of statewide posts and new folks on the ballot for our Windham County senate seat!

I learned this week that the Republican nominated a candidate to run against me in our district– I’m going to need your help!

There is so much to be done in the next legislative session and I’m already getting ready for it! Affordable and accessible childcare, further reforms to our property tax system, universal family medical leave, closing the gender and racial pay gap, justice reform and more. But I can only get it all done if I have you with me. I need your vote, yes, but I’m a better legislator when I hear from you. Policy is best when it is built from the ground up, and I want to build with you.

The Meet the Candidate events that I put on this summer on the Brattleboro Common were a huge success, and I heard from a number of people that it changed how they were thinking about voting. I’m hoping to put together a series next month to “Meet the Issues.” What issues are pressing or complex for you? I’m thinking about housing, wealth inequality/social infrastructure, opioids, schools, racism. What do you want to gather and discuss?

Please volunteer https://www.emiliekornheiser.org/volunteer/ I could really use some help! Can you write postcards or help me set up chairs or deliver some lawnsigns? Tell me that you have an hour and we will figure out what makes your heart sing. I spent some of my time volunteer bartending for Next Stage this summer: I got to be in the sun, listen to great music, and make people happy. It is so different for me than serving on a board or any of my day-to-day work life that it felt like a relief to give in this particular way. I want volunteering with the campaign to feel like a relief as well. Let’s make it happen.

Please donate https://secure.actblue.com/donate/kornheiser Lawn signs cost money ($10 a piece,) sending mail to everyone in the district costs almost $1000, and then there are parties, and web services and more. Please give a bit if you can, even $18 makes a big difference. Thank you!

I’m so grateful to the folks who hosted and turned out in neighbors’ yards and patios this season to talk about the economy and gardening and septic systems and politics! I’m hosting a zoom party/conversation on September 14th at 5pm, you can click here to join. And we’re planning for a few more before the weather gets too cold. Please stay tuned for a party on your street.

And in the midst of all these politics we’re living the very lives that make it matter.
Student Loan Relief! So much to say and so many feelings of relief and frustration and hope. Here’s a twitter thread https://twitter.com/ekkornheiser/status/1562792368986009602?s=21&t=sQOJ484Ob5ed2VKJ5jFViQ and here’s a spot to learn more about refunds https://www.whitehouse.gov/briefing-room/statements-releases/2022/08/24/fact-sheet-president-biden-announces-student-loan-relief-for-borrowers-who-need-it-most/, new income based repayment plans, and whether you will get 10k or 20k of relief. Article 22 is on the ballot in November and the opposition has come out strong. The Reproductive Liberty Amendment is about more than abortion, it’s about the right to parent or not, the right to our bodies. You can learn more and get connected here https://reprolibertyvt.org/. Did you know that you can get boxes of free covid tests at the Department of Health in Brattleboro https://www.google.com/maps/dir/42.827776,-72.5581824/brattleboro+dept+of+health/@42.8415867,-72.5849017,14z/data=!3m1!4b1!4m9!4m8!1m1!4e1!1m5!1m1!1s0x89e11a51f20c5c25:0xcac110fee4c253de!2m2!1d-72.5611024!2d42.8553776?
