A Voting Guide

We have a lot of choices in this year’s primary (ending on August 9th.) But this isn’t just about voting or the single moment in the ballot box— I’m hoping that this election cycle is an opportunity to talk about policy, to hold ourselves accountable to dreaming, to tell each other stories about our lives.

I’m committed to making opportunities for you to dive deep on this and I want you to have all the information you need to make the decisions that align with your goals and values.

VtDigger has a candidate guide that is in the candidates’ own words AND I encourage you to read some of their coverage and watch their hosted debates https://vtdigger.org/vtdigger-2022-election-guide/.

We’ve interviewed many of the candidates on The Montpelier Happy Hour. Have you ever listened? As Olga, my cohost, says, “we like to go deep geek” and I think these candidate conversations illuminate a lot. You can access the show directly on my youtube channel, our captivate page, by subscribing in your podcast app. You can also catch us on facebook live, BCTV, or Brattleboro Community Radio.

We have one more WeCAN Meet the Candidate event on the Common. On July 27th from 5-7pm we’re going to set up a table stretching across the Common and sit down together. We’ll provide the dinner (FREE!) and all settle in across the table for political and community conversations. We’re hoping to come out the other side of these dinner table conversations with policy proposals, new relationships, and stories well told. Please join us by clicking on this rsvp link to register https://forms.gle/AXuUBwZAqZJETZgs9. It’s been incredible to host so many of the statewide candidates. This is your chance to ask tough questions, and for candidates to learn about the wants and needs of Brattleboro folks. Please come on down and bring a friend— I would appreciate ALL of your help getting the word out on this.

How to Vote:

Get it done! You have a few choices but you need to be the one to make the first move: Pick up a ballot at the town clerk’s office, sign up online https://mvp.vermont.gov to have one mailed to you, or just head to the polls on Election Day. So many options, just make a plan and do it by August 9th. (FYI: The general election ballot for November will be mailed directly to your home.)

And I’m on the ballot too!

I’ve had a great time hosting Meet the Candidate events on the Common and attending campaign parties in the Westgate, Bonnyvale, Orchard, and Maple neighborhoods. Huge thanks to the hosts and all who attended for such good conversations (and good food.)

There are more opportunities and events coming up: On Guilford St, Thursday July 21st at 5pm. On Goodenough Rd, August 16th at 4pm. On South St, September 18th at 3pm. On the Zooms, September 14th. Attend here. An Icecream Social at Rebop Farm on Sunset Lake! Sunday August 7th at 4pm. Please reach out if you would like to attend any or all of the events!

And finally— I’m hoping to send some mail to every house and knock on every door but I need your help. Can you give a few minutes to help with the campaign: https://forms.gle/Y6tkY5ChsaWciZ767
